Frequencies Used by the KMSC

All radio control equipment used by KMSC club members must be legal for this use in accordance with FCC rules.  Model airplane radios are assigned to the 72 MHz band and IAW with FCC regulations MAY NOT be used to control model boats.

Please go to the AMYA frequency page for a table of FCC authorized frequencies.

If you are planning to use a radio on the 75 MHz band, please examine this page and choose a frequency that is not assigned. Two boats cannot operate on the same 75 MHz channel at the same time.  Radios operating on the 2.4 Ghz band do not interfere with each other.

No KMSC radios are operating on the 49 MHz band where some low-cost boats and cars operate

No KMSC radios presently using Amateur Radio Band

No KMSC radios presently using 27 MHz band

KMSC boats on 75 MHz Band

If your boat will be using a Victor-supplied radio purchased before October 2011, or another 75 MHz radio, for example, from an RC car, then please read and follow the guidance show here.

Thirty channels in the 75 MHz band are assigned by the FCC to "ground" control use, meaning "not model aircraft." So these channels are used by RC cars, boats, and robots. Care should be exercised if model cars appear at the park while sailing, since they may be on one of the channels we are using.

When ordering a new radio, skippers should avoid channels aready assigned and those marked "Do Not Use" in the table below. Please choose any channel with a "-" in the "Assignment and Use Notes" box--the ones that are white in the first column.

If a club member gets a new radio on one of the channels already assigned or restricted from use because of 3IM, it becomes their responsibility to obtain a crystal set on a different frequency that is not permanently assigned. It would be nice to reserve the frequencies of the "inactive" skippers so they can come back and join us at any time. However, if you are joining the club with a V-32 and already have a radio on one of the tan shaded channels, please call the Commodore, and most likely that channel can be assigned to you.. Active V-32 boats will be given priority over other fleets, inactive, and backup.

2.4 GHz Band Spektrum Radio

As of October, 2011, Victor Model Products supplies radios only on the 2.4 GHz band. So new boat owners who use the 2.4 GHz radio supplied by Victor will not need to consider the 75 MHz channel assignments discussed above. Just get the equipment and come out and play!

Specktrum radios operate on the 2.4 GHz band and do not interfere with the frequencies on the above chart or with each other. The radios are designed to automatically pick a frequency that is not being used when the unit is switched on.

They say the loser learns more than the winner. After that last regatta, I sure must know a lot.
